The Summer Solstice is a day many people look forward to; it marks the first day of summer – obviously everyone’s favourite season in Edmonton! It’s the longest day of the year, leaving us more time for visiting, eating, and enjoying some crisp summer drinks! Yes, spring and fall are both equally as beautiful, however, summer is the time where BBQs, get togethers with family and friends, and relaxing in the sun are everyone’s main priority.
The Summer Solstice has become an incredible worldwide interpretation amongst varied cultures. Many recognize this day and celebrate with holidays, festivals, and rituals. What many people don’t know is that the date of the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere is actually the same day that marks the Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere.
We assisted in a Summer Solstice event last year at Elk Island – the ambience was that of complete calmness. Being so close to nature, you felt so connected to your roots. Beautiful rustic, shabby-chic décor with delicious canapés and thirst quenching beverages, a big open fire pit with warm blankets and a guitarist. There were s’mores to make, friends to make, scenery to enjoy, and of course, little gifts to take home with you.
It was a great way to welcome summer into the city and kick off our favourite time of year! We enjoyed it so much we’ve decided to host our very own Summer Solstice event which falls on the twentieth of June for us this year.
Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming posts about our newest event, as well as, tips and tricks for hosting your own Summer Solstice event! We will share the perfect décor ideas, menu options, and specialty drinks to serve your guests.
